Qurban reaches Sidr victims - Wed, 6 Aug 08


Muslim Aid distributed canned Qurbani meat to10, 000 people affected by Cyclone Sidr in Bagerhat and Patuakhali as part of its relief and rehabilitation programme.
The meat was given to 4,800 families in Southkhali, Rayenda and Khontabunia Union under Sharankhola in Bagerhat and 5,200 families in Deuli Subidkhali, Kakrabunia, Mirjaganj, Madokkhali, Aamragachia in Mirzaganj, Patuakhali.
“People in this area have been leading a miserable life after the cyclone. Most of them don’t get meals twice in a day, so this is a great opportunity for them to improve their diet. I thank the people of Australia who felt for our brothers,” said Project Officer Alauddin Al Azad.
Salma, 13, said, “I am very pleased to have this. The cans look nice. I hope we will enjoy a better dinner today.”
After Cyclone Sidr hit Muslim Aid, with the assistance from donors implemented different projects such as emergency relief, safe water, health, sanitation, shelter, and education.
The canned Qurbani meat programme is implemented with the support from Muslim Aid Australia. The cans have a longer shelf life, allowing survivors to sustain themselves for a longer time.
