Eid Ul Adha

Eid Ul Adha represents a moment of immense joy and celebration for Muslims worldwide.Eid Ul Adha notably marks the conclusion of the sacred Hajj pilgrimage, signaling the commencement of the revered ritual of Udhiya, also widely recognized as Qurbani. Muslims globally unite in celebration, each embracing Eid Ul Adha in their unique cultural manner, yet bound by common Islamic rulings. The main theme, of course, is to remember the story of Ibrahim (AS); to rejoice, regroup, and rekindle as a family and feast together.

Who Is Encouraged to Attend the Celebratory Eid Ul Adha Prayers?

Eid-ul-Adha prayers traditionally unfold in expansive open spaces, known as Eidgah, or on extensive dry lands, designed to accommodate the multitude of Muslims in attendance. Men and adult teenagers are required to attend, but women are not obligated to attend. People who happen to be in the state of travel are exempt from attending.

When Is Eid Ul Adha Celebrated and Qurbani Performed?

Eid-Ul-Adha is commemorated on a fixed date, specifically the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, in the Islamic calendar. Dhul Hijjah is the last month of the Islamic calendar during which the Hajj pilgrimage is performed. Upon the conclusion of Eid Ul Adha prayers, Muslims engage in the Qurbani ritual, executing an animal sacrifice—typically a goat, cow, or camel—adhering to the Sunna of Ibrahim (AS). The time for Qurbani is limited and it ends just 3 days later.

Embracing the Joy: Preparing for Eid Ul Adha Celebrations

As mentioned earlier, Eid ul Adha is a joyous occasion. As such, people dress up, put on perfume or bring gifts for other family members and friends. Putting on new clothes and a nice fragrance is Sunna. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known to dress up on this day.

Muslim Aid Australia extends heartfelt wishes for a happy and Glorious Eid Ul Adha to all our Muslim members, enthusiasts, followers, and the global Muslim community.
