Qurban in Australia 2025

Qurban in Australia 2025

In Australia, you can fulfil your Qurban obligation by donating through registered charities that perform the sacrifice on your behalf in approved locations, either locally or in countries where the need is greater.

You don’t need to be physically present. By donating your Qurban online, you're ensuring the sacrifice is done in accordance with Islamic guidelines, and that the meat reaches families who would otherwise go without on Eid.

What Is Dhul Hijjah and Why Is It Important?

Dhul Hijjah is one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar. It’s the final month of the lunar year and contains some of the most spiritually significant days for Muslims, including the first ten days, which are more beloved to Allah than any other days in the year.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days.”
 Bukhari

During this month, we fast, we pray, we give charity, and we offer Qurban (or Udhiyah), the animal sacrifice made to honour the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

When Does Dhul Hijjah Start in 2025?

In 2025, Dhul Hijjah is expected to begin on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, depending on the moon sighting. That means Eid al-Adha will likely fall on Friday, 6 June 2025.

Muslims across Australia will begin making preparations to give their Qurban during this time.

What Is Qurban?

Qurban, also known as Udhiyah, refers to the sacrifice of livestock (such as sheep, goats, or cows) during Eid al-Adha, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim's (AS) unwavering submission to Allah’s command. It’s a powerful act of worship—one that connects us to the spirit of obedience, sacrifice, and compassion.

The meat is divided into three parts:

  • One-third for the family,
  • One-third for relatives or neighbours,
  • One-third for the poor and needy.

Qurban is more than just a ritual, it’s a revival of the legacy of faith, trust, and obedience. In the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, while we fast, make dhikr, and strive to do good, let’s not forget the power of sacrifice.

Neither their meat nor blood reaches Allah. Rather, it is your piety that reaches Him. - 22:37

This year, make your Qurban count. Fulfil it with intention, and ive from Australia to the Ummah!
